Remembering Sanna
Former Educate the Children Board Member passes away
Sanna Serog of Ithaca, NY and a former Educate the Children Board Member passed away on November 13, 2008. Board Member Colleen Thapalia writes of Sanna: "Sanna was a great ETC friend. I remember meeting her for the first time around 1994 when she and her husband, Mike, attended an ETC open house. They told us that they were adopting a girl from Nepal. Turns out they adopted two girls, Dhiki and Chenga, and made a wonderful family. Sanna became a good personal friend. My daughter had many fun times with Dhiki and Chenga when Sanna and I attended ETC meetings. Remembering that first meeting with Sanna, when Pamela recruited her to ETC's cause, gives me a moment of sadness for losing friends too soon, but also a moment of gratitude for the example of their friendship, dignity and generosity." Sanna's family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Educate the Children. Colleen has made a web page to make giving contributions easier. You can get there by clicking on this link.
The Fund for Dolakha
Board of Directors Launches Matching Challenge
Educate the Children recently began working in the Dolakha District of Nepal which lies several hours northeast of Kathmandu. The community there is in great need of your support. Because of rising costs in Nepal and the necessity of ensuring a good start to our projects there, Educate the Children's Board of Directors have launched a special matching challenge. For every dollar you give they will match it dollar for dollar up to $50,000! This is a great way to help women and children in Dolakha have the best possible chance of success. By making a generous gift today to the Fund for Dolakha, you will help make it possible to organize 50 women’s groups, provide 1,000 scholarships for children, improve 26 schools, and establish 1,000 kitchen gardens!
Step up to the challenge today!
