The Fund for Dolakha

Only $30,000 left to go!!
Last fall the Board of Directors and Friends of Educate the Children Launched the Fund for Dolakha Matching Challenge. They pledged to match every dollar given up to $50,000 for a total fund of $100,000. So far, supporters have stepped up to the Challenge to the tune of $20,000! But $30,000 more is urgently needed to ensure that women and children in Dolakha can take full advantage of educational and other development opportunities that we have to offer.

Many who have responded to the Challenge have sent us notes of encouragement. One wrote “I’m a former volunteer and continuing supporter. I continue to be impressed by the work Educate the Children is able to do in a country I love.” Another wrote: “Thank you for helping Nepalis in need.” It is wonderful to have such committed partners for change!
We need to get the rest of the way there! The demand for our services is higher during these tough economic times. Most adult women are illiterate and their children often drop out after only a few years of elementary school. Schools are in terrible condition and lack even basic infrastructure such as furniture, potable water and teaching materials.

Since so many women are denied the opportunity of a formal education and because poverty in Dolakha is so great, each woman who joins a Women’s Group will receive a scholarship for one of her daughters to attend school. This gives the women involved tremendous incentive to stay in our program and influence their daughters.
We hope to have 50 Women’s Groups organized by the end of this year because the need is so great. This vitally important work will improve the lives of hundreds of Nepali families. We will work with 26 schools improving facilities, training teachers, organizing child clubs and providing hundreds of scholarships so that needy children can attend school and receive a quality education.

We invite you to meet the challenge and become our partner in bringing a better future to communities Dolakha! Step up to the challenge today!
