The earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May, 2015 caused untold devastation throughout Dolakha District. All 30 schools with which ETC has been working since mid-2014 were badly damaged or destroyed, as were many schools in villages where ETC previously worked. We are thankful that because school was not in session at the time (the first quake struck on a Saturday mid-day), children were not in these buildings - the death and serious injury toll would surely have been very high if they had been. However, the property damage is nearly universal, and it will take a long time and considerable money to rebuild the schools to quake-resistant standards.

This is the campus of Mahadev Swori Lower Secondary School in Babare Village Development Committee (VDC). On this sunny Friday afternoon in February 2015, the students were participating in a quiz competition.
Here is an interior view of a classroom at Hillepani Higher Secondary School in Lamidanda VDC. This classroom, and indeed most likely the entire school, will need to be rebuilt to more quake-resistant standards.
